Wanted: Swinging Arm for 1960 A10
« on: 13.06. 2010 19:17 »
Hi there,
I'm looking for a swinging arm p/n 42-4450. (It's the one with the extra lugs on the LH side. Coloured red in pic)
Failing that does anyone have a dimensioned drawing of the swing arm? I'm assuming I can convert the version I've got WITHOUT the lugs given such a drawing.
Funnily enough, the parts books I've got show only two types of s/a, one with U shape spindle loops (second pic) p/n 42-4316 and the version with enclosed loops in the first pic. I seem to have a third kind with enclosed loops with no brackets but with the lugs of the earlier kind. Maybe this is the p/n 42-4102?
Anyway, any help you can offer will be gratefully received.
I live in Wiltshire (UK).
Cheers

Gary,
You will have a bit of a task to convert the single side brake swinging arm to later specs.
Apart from the chainguard mounts, you will need new silentbloc bushes and will have to devise an anchor for the brake torque arm. You will also have to do a bit of filing for the axle.
The open ended swinging arm is a bit of a rarity, I have only ever seen one, on a 1954 Shooting Star.
All others have closed loops in my experience.

What you propose to do seems like an awful lot of work. I would suggest the best option would be to buy the swing arm you are looking for (they are very common) whereas your arm is much sort after by people building RGS or Goldie look a likes. You will get a good price for it.
