Meet the Twins ;-)
« on: 23.05. 2010 12:20 »
Finally stopped raining here, so I took the bikes out for a ride together with my Dad.
This time I had the camera ready to take some pics of the bikes like I promised to do long time ago...

They were restored to pretty original specs (except the petrol taps and the Concentric carbs). You can clearly see the difference in the shape of the exhaust pipes. The ones on the Flash were bought from Armours. They fitted very well, but still have that straight portion that looks very Triumph-styled. The pipes as well as the "silencers" on the Shooting Star are home-made. I think I got the original shape quite right.

Best wishes from sunny Austria!

Markus

What a pair of beauties. Well done Marcus. The SS pipes look great, are they stainless?

Thanks muskrat.
The pipes are chromed. I made these from boiler pipes of correct diameter, filled with glass sand, heated in a smith's hearth and bent over a template welded to a metal plate.
The pipes are quite heavy gauge, so they don't turn blue at all, unlike the ones on the Flash.

beautiful,
I'd never really thought about the pipe shape until I looked closely at yours.

Thank you very much for all your nice comments.

Brian,
The next project is the Matchless G12 CSR I bought recently, already started working on that one.
There are so many great British bikes of that period, so I'm just waiting what's gonna come along I guess...

Markus,
They are a credit to you. Top workmanship.
Please don't take offense, but do you know that the SS tank you have is off a '58-'59 model?
The Shooting Star of that era was a beautiful bike. Much more attractive than the Flash.

Thanks once again to all of you.  More plaudit than I can actually bear  *smile* *red*

Trev,

I'm not offended at all, but what makes you recognize this as a later tank?
It's the position of the knee rubbers, isn't it?
That is owing to the fact that it is an Indian replica. I bought it as a '55 SS tank on evilbay (kind of hard to find these), however, considering the postage costs back to UK and the rarity of these tanks (even the repros) I decided not to bother about it as it was otherwise okay.
The tank that came with the bike was off a Flash with the winged badges (like the one on my '56), sold that one on ebay.

I thought no one would realize anyway, but then there's this walking BSA encyclopedia living in OZ....   *smile* wink2

so I took the bikes out for a ride together with my Dad.

Bikes aside... "To ride with my Dad" that's what doe's it for me! I'd dearly love to ride with mine but sadly age defeats him now being 79. I showed him the Shooting Star photo of your bike and he lit up like a lamp as he also had one back in the mid fifties. Lovely bikes Marcus, make a habit of riding as much as you can with your pop before his riding days also come to an end. Thanks for posting.
