Pics of the new (to me) Golden Flash!
« on: 17.04. 2010 20:55 »
Herewith pictures of my newly acquired A10 Golden Flash. 1958 model but first registered Feb 1959.  Pretty much standard and in truly immaculate condition.

i'm really happy with the bike but am looking for a genuine BSA back rack - any ideas?

Cheers...

Peter

Hi Peter

Really nice looking Flash - I am sure you will enjoy her and look after her. Portsmouth registration if it is the original number.

Is the horn the original type? When I bought my Super Rocket it had a horrible small 2" Japanese horn fitted and I managed to get an Altette replica horn from Lyford Classics and it really looks good. If you go that way you will need a cranked horn mounting bracket and mount it on the exhaust pipe mounting stud so that it clears the dynamo.

I am currently fitting a rack for a Craven top box and panniers and gave up on the BSA type and I am fitting a 60s Craven rack. It sits a bit high and wide if mounted on the shock top mountings so I am making a couple of brackets from 35x6 steel which pick up on the shock top mounts and the oil tank \ toolbox mounts and face rearwards to clear the shocks. Then I will bolt and weld  on a downward facing section to lower the rack front mount by about 3" (effectively downward facing L brackets). I will then make some rear mounts to pick up on the rear mudguard stay mountings. The rack will then sit just below the rear seat height and is as narrow as it can be so that the panniers do not stick out too far.

It is the original number. ( Got the log book!).  Not sure about the origins of the horn.  I think it's British and may even be the original one. I just don't know but knowing the guy I bought it off I'd have a bet it's fairly authentic either to period or specific to that bike.
I've bought an old 'Craven' back rack that needs some brackets made to fit existing fastenings and then the whole lot will need sandblasting and powder-coating.  Work commences  *smiley4*....

Lawnmowerman,
That is not the original horn or mounting position.
Originally it was a Lucas HF1441 mounted on the bottom yoke inside the nacelle.
The HF1441 is the same horn used on Triumphs of the same era which is mounted in a similar place.
Trev.

By the way, BeezerGeezer, that is a very nice Flash!

Thanks for that Lawnmowerman.  I'll keep my eye out for one of those. Might as well keep it as original as I possibly can...
