Rear Carrier A10, 1962
« on: 11.03. 2010 17:35 »
I am planning to attend the BSA summercamp in Kent in July, and therefore I need something to put my luggage on. I have done a lot of search on the net and at local jumbles, but no luck so far. Next step will be to try and make one, and my hope is that one of you might have a drawing, and/or maybe a nice picture to use as a guide ?  I've got RGS mudguards on, as you can see from my logo picture, but anything to build on would be appreciated!

Hi Joergen

I have just been through the same issue - although I do not need a rack for the same reason as the summer camp is about 15km down the road so I may attend as a day visitor for a few days.

I looked at the options for a carrier for a top box and it looks like the only modern equivalent which could possibly be adapted is the Renntec rear rack for the Triumph Bonneville but if you are looking at panniers also then the mountings may need some further thought. I have some information and photos from Renntec which I can PM you if you decide to go down that road.

What I did was to set up a search for Craven on ebay with mail notifications and after a few months the right craven carrier with top box and panniers came up on which I bid for and won. I am currently in the process of fitting the rack and a few brackets will need to be fabricated but it is a period rack and will not look out of place on a 1959 bike.

I will post some pics showing the fitting of the rack and brackets required in a few weeks time. If you would like the Renntec info then PM me and I will send it.

Safe riding

Jim

Thanks Jim
I've looked at the Rentec website, an I'll keep that solution as an option - but for now I'll have to do with a set of throw over saddlebacks - I'm looking forward to some pictures of your Craven solution, as they will look more period !

See you on the Summercamp - perhaps there will be some nice rear carriers to copy  *smile*

kind regards

The red A10 for sale has a rack fitted.
They might take it off and sell it to you, or they might have one similar in their stock of spares.
Cheers,
Iain

Hi Joergen,

I regularly meet up with Danish guys at the BSAOC International Rallies and I am sure that there will be quite a few attending the 2010 Summercamp in Kent.  I know that the Dansk BSA Klub has hundreds of members and it could be worth your while to meet some of the regular riders.  Some might even have spare carrier racks hung up in their sheds!!

I will also be at the Summercamp so will look forward to meeting up with you.

Beezageezauk.

Hi Beezageezauk

I think we will be quite a few Danes attending the summercamp, and some of us will also be travelling together - so I. looking forward to meeting a lot of BSA people over there.
Regarding the rear carrier - I think there was a danish member that used to make them, but only in bashes of 5-10, but I'm not sure if this is the case anymore, so I'l just keep sharp lookout, and see what turns up, maybe I can take some pictures and measurements at the Summercamp!

Hi All,
Some years ago C&D autos had carriers for A7/10's
It might be worth a call to see if they still do them!

I tried C&D autos - and this was the answer:

Hello Joergen,
I regret that due to quality concerns I no longer supply the rear carrier assemblies.
I am sorry I cannot help this time.

Some photos of my rear carrier. I recall buying it NOS in Pratts of Greenwich in the late 70's. Much neater than many I have seen IMHO, and can take a lot of weight. If you are interested will be happy to give any dimensions.
Cheers

Thanks a lot for the pictures Mike!

I can use them as a guide to do my own drawings from. As I've got rocket mudguards I'll have to change the fastenings and layout a bit so the actual dimensions I will need to take on my own bike
