Hello from Australia
« on: 14.05. 2007 11:09 »
I have just signed up and still trying to work out how to navigate the site so not completely sure what I am doing. I live in South Australia and have not long finished my 53' A10. I've done a little over 2000miles on it in two months and its great, terrific bike. I also have a restored 51' A7 and are currently restoring a 50' A7 Star Twin [twin carby]. I will attatch a photo and click on post, here goes............. I think I have worked out how to put a photo of the 51' A7 on as well.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Fido, I may well be in for some fun with the twin carby's on the Star Twin. Getting one sidebowl Amal to work properly is usually a exercise let alone getting two to work and in unison with each other !

I know. I have a twin carb manifold which I might try on the A7 one day but not with original pre monobloc carbs. I might look for a pair from a modern twin with linkage spindles. If these have the wrong spacing it is possible to make new spindles. I know it deviates from originality but I would keep the original bits to but back when required.

You can buy new 7/8" concentrics, might be worth thinking about. I have been able to build up two nearly new sidebowl types [275] from nos spares off e-bay. The original carbs were knackered. I intend to drill and tap two plugs underneath the manifold out of site so I can use vaccum gauges to help set them up. I have a lot of work to do before I get to the carby's as i have not long started on the resto.

Thanks Pollock, I've been a plunger fan for quite some time. I like the style of the earlier bikes but the back isnt as good as it once was so I find the plungers in combination with a sprung saddle give me a ride I can enjoy. I also have a very nice original 49' B33 and a 53' M21.

Hi Brian
Welcome to the board.  I am also a plunger guy.  I have a 49 A7 Star Twin I have been riding.  Right now it has a single monoblock.  I have a pic of the twin manafold with 626 carbs on it.  They are a little big for the inlet tract so I never mounted them.  I also have a couple of 275s that I am collecting bits for.  I would be interested in hearing of your progress.

Brian, I almost started a new thread to congratulate you on such a beautiful bike as is currently the Feature of our lovely forum.  both of them in fact, are very nicely finished.

it seems your cases are highly polished, I've been wondering if that is stock kept extremely well, or typically done by an industrious owner?

I've only begun to realize the fun I've in store with restoring my 57 A10 Spitfire I purchased about a month ago.
