What is this ?? Help Wanted
« on: 30.12. 2009 16:57 »
I had found this many years ago in a garage I was buying........it has sat in my workshop collecting dust until last night when I buddy told me it belongs to a BSA A10 Rocket Gold Star.....Is this correct ?
I am trying to get a picture up of it, just in case it is a little (5 or so inches) silver rocket with a curved base and 2 studs out the bottom.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, keep the rubber side down.

Presumably for a BSA Road Rocket. They were mounted to the mudguard. I've never seen one on a British Road Rocket, but have seen photos of them on Australian and American  Road Rockets, never a close up photo though. (was it just to fill the unused holes in the mudguard where the British front number plate was mounted?) Nice piece of space age kitsch.
Cheers,
Iain

Definitely for the front fender of the Super Rocket. Very rare, I guess you could get good money for it, if you want to sell.

Look at this advert: http://bsa.hailwood.com/Klaehn1957A10SR.html

Guess it was only used for the export models in '57 and/or '58.

I liked the design (very space-age) and always thought it went to some oddball car.
There was actually an A10 in the garage, but it was mounted to a cart and used as a generator (no wheels, chain driving a PTO - driving a generator) Was really a bad cob job set up for welding, it fit in a pick up truck to take to jobsites. *smile*
Interesting, thank you for the help

This is a Road Rocket "motif", part number 42-6520. As mentioned above, it was fitted to export machines. Definitely here in Australia.
I would imagine they were discontinued after 1957.

Dave
I am told they are being made (pattern)
However I think it would look better mounted on my super rocket as it would just not look good enough on your SRM built bike *smil*
I have a friend who has one and he did say he would let me have it but then someone told him it was rare and I think his mind was changed.
These things are only rare if there is a demand for them and with replicas on the market the demand is less, they were export only so would be out of place on UK bikes, however that would still not put me off having one on my bike.
But beware of UK regulations about having mascots mounted on Bonnets and front mudguards

Well, you planted the seed.  I have decided this belongs on a bike, not in a box in my shop.  I am placing it for sale on e-bay/US on January 16th at 9 pm EST.
While it is very cool.....it does belong on a fender of a beautiful bike.
My seller ID is the same as my user ID here....I would love any advice you may have before I do list it.  Thanks all.....SS *idea*

This doesn't show up on my ebay BSA watching pages... Did you list it on the UK ebay site? The other guys may have a U.S. watching page but most people don't know there is a .co.uk and .com difference. Probably applies to .au Australia and other countries too.

It's in the US. When you do a search check the title & description box and the worldwide box down a little on the left. My saved search is BSA A10, title & description, all cats, world wide. One new and one ending soon. Over 1800 items at moment, although there is a few batteries for A10 cameras.
cheers
