RGS footrest configuration
« on: 10.03. 2025 09:35 »
Hi Folks. I went out on the RGS copy yesterday and, maybe it's my age, but the footrest arrangement is spoiling the ride. I've looked at photos of other RGS's and they all seem to be similar to mine. The main problem is that the kickstart digs into my calf and forces my right leg outwards, so, finding the gear lever is really tricky and I have resorted to changing with my heel. The kickstart points towards the fuel tap as on all RGS's but, actually, it would be better in the standard position. If anybody has any tips, I'd be glad to hear them or, on the other hand, maybe 'they're all like that'! If you have an RGS in Clubmans trim please let me know your experience. Ta.

Well, I've been swinging the spanners and found a compromise which comes close. The problem is that, by moving the footrests backwards, they also go upwards, which is inconvenient as the knee bend is even tighter and less well suited to a fat 70 year old. But, at least I can change gear (most of the time). The other problem is the size of my feet which I don't think I can do much about!

This is my bike Tourer/Clubmans Hybrid. You will notice the Kick start is angled forwards to suit the rearsets. I ride with touring handlebars at the inststance of my aged back. but it's a comfortable riding position. To move the kick starter angle forward you will need to fit a Goldie kick start shaft

Very nice bike. Thanks. Looking at your arrangement - virtually identical to mine. Mine's in clubmans trim which causes me to lean forwards and, consequently, the toes point down. So, I've lowered the gear lever a notch on the spline and moved the footrests back to their vertical, mid point position. Seems much better as it has moved my calf to just behind the kick start lever. But, the feet sit a bit higher so I feel a bit like a jockey and I'm not sixteen and eight stone!

Hi,

here are pictures of my RGS as it came from BSA to its first owner and as it looks now!
Yes the kickstart lever digs a little bit in my calf!

Regards
Uwe

when i fitted my rrt2 to the bergler build i just upset the rivet counters and used a yonda kicker because it works very well. betsy has one as well on the std box but not as posh  ;)
