Wanted tank badge screws sorted

I have the countersunk screws and I am looking for flat head screws to stop the pear shaped badge from cracking. I believe they are BA3 by 7/8ths. Part No 40-8016.

Also the rubber pads 42-8049/51 that sit on top of the frame tube are not really doing there job well.  Has anyone got a supply or supplier?

Try Acme Stainless; look under general fasteners.
Colin does a wide range for Ariel, Triumph and AMC bikes. Beautifully finished fasteners. Take the time to look through the three marques.

also, try Barleycorn Engineering. Check out their SS fasteners for ammeter / light switch binnacle, and the top strap for retaining the battery.

Another worthwhile addition is the backing rubber mounting which I think are off A65,s to support the pear shaped badges and prevent cracking.

As I replied to the other recent tank badges post just offer up and try using electric light switch/socket screws. On the "problem" 4" pattern badges I had they were perfect for spreading the load and avoiding cracking.

Barlycorn do not do 3BA. Not sure about ammeter screws.  Battery top strap are CEI
ACME have 2BA but no 3BA.  Seems like that most places I have looked, not sure why BA3 should be so rare. 
  These are dangerous web sites, I am a big fan of stainless steel and I could spend a lot of money.

I bought a pair of rubber backs for the badges when I was building the bike. When I realised they were off A65 rather than A10s I did not fit them. I will now, but the 3BA screws are 7/8" long and will need to be longer with the rubber backing.

I have heard before about using electrical box screws. I tried them today and they are too small.  I think they are M3.5.

I will ring Priory Magneto's Wednesday to see if he can help. I am just checking anything else I might need. I have found some 3BA on eBay but I had not planned on buying 25.

i have some brass BA that i borrowed from the coal board stores i will have a look tomorrow if i have 3BA ,  if i have you can have two but don't tell me later the tank screws aren't 3BA if i have them in my tins and send them.

Thanks Berger yep they are 3 BA. I have 1,2 and 4 BA as well as loads of metric and it was almost a Goldilocks moment, too small, too large or wrong thread but none just right.

The bolt schedule states BA3 7/8” long and my counter sunk ones are this length.

The length is one of the problems. At7/8 they are longer than most on offer. Also if I use the A65 rubber backing 7/8 will be too short as thread only engages by one or two threads.

3 and 5BA have become a harder to get these days, and choice of lengths is pretty limited as you say, being confined to 3/4 and 7/8 in c/sunk or caphead from my usual go-to site, BA Bolts. If 7/8 is too short owing to the rubber spacer, 'tis a pain . . . .
3BA's major diameter is 4.1mm and the pitch is 35tpi in round numbers. M4 x 0.7 is 36tpi in round numbers. So I'd have thought would serve in what is a non-critical application?
If the different thread angles are a worry a dab of loctite should do it - or run an M4 tap down the holes if you've got one handy?

3BA (like other "odd" BA sizes) was largely used on older electrical equipment, so pretty obscure now.
An enthusiast I know swears by silicon rubber, both to "sit" the badge on and to secure those 3.5mm electrical screws in place. Resists vibration damage very well, apparently.

Obscure indeed Rex, yes. A market that it's impossible to address economically I guess.
But - we do need specific types of screw at 3BA for a lot of magnetos, and those can mostly be had still. Won't do for tank badges though. The rarity is brought home if you need 3BA helicoils. Very pricey they were, the last lot I got.

failed!! sorry mate i had a go, it seems i had my sticky fingers in most sizes but 3 BA i don't even have a 3BA dia but got an 8 of all things, i tried a 35 TPI thread gauge on a 3.9 mm brass screw and it was nowhere near so i can't be of any help with this .
