Got out eventually!
« on: 01.11. 2009 19:01 »
What a blowey day and wet start! I did not think I'd be riding today, but by early afternoon it had dried out sufficiently to roll bike out. I wanted to explore villages that were either end of a huge railway viaduct spanning the Welland Valley in Rutland the smallest county in England. First photo is of that long viaduct which I do beleive is still in use and serves the Corby to Oakham line, probably being an Ore and steel line as Corby was once a large Steel works.

Under the vast viaduct and possibly half the way along...

Riding down to the middle I came across an old branch line junction station... Nice to see the old Bridge still there...

The Sun sets fast this time of the year and on my way home I came across this old Wartime airfield belonging to the USAAF. I did not know about this and will be reading it up this evening with view to visiting it again soon....

That is one impressive viaduct! I couldn't imagine what it would cost to build something like that today.
Nice M20 also.
