Correct main stand spring
« on: 26.12. 2024 10:42 »
Hi all,
Is there a different main stand spring for my 53 flash.
The ones for sale on line have a loop on one end , but the bracket on the stand has a hole in it, although the said bracket has a slight curve to it which may hold that type of spring on. If that is the correct spring is there something that goes through the hole to make sure it doesn't flick off. Like a bolt or something?.
Thanks steve

Is your spring 67-4847?  This loops over that tag on the stand

Not sure if the spring I have is the correct one.
Both ends are open and it looks like it's been bodged up to fit.

I'm pretty sure 67-4847 is the correct one. It goes over that tag and a bolt and nut hold it in place. Odd arrangement but there you go.  They seem to be quite widely available. Draganfly have them for £8.66 (ex vat)

This is the correct spring for a 52-53 plunger, held on by a slotted screw and nut.
Judging by your picture, the hole seems to be unthreaded? It should have (from memory) a 5/16 CEI thread.
Mind you, it's a hefty pull to get it over the tag. Be prepared to damage some of that nice paint...  *eek* ;)

If fitting the stand from scratch, it's easier to fit the spring to the stand, hook  the spring into the frame, then lever the stand roughly into position, working single handed a short length of wooden batten avoids paint damage. Get a couple of temporary pivots in place, then replace one by one with the proper ones. Easier with the stand in the up position, better still with an assistant to offer support and a sounding board for the inevitable curses, and maybe a drive to the ER.

My parts book does not show a nut and bolt on the stand to retain the spring loop on the stand tag but it is the simple and obvious way to keep the spring in place on the tag.

 Swarfy.
