Gearbox inner cover cable tab
« on: 30.11. 2024 06:02 »
Just noticed my gearbox inner cover clutch cable tab does not have a cutout for the cable to for through!

Never seen this before!

Going to go to a Vintage Motorcycle Shop tomorrow to vapor blast the gearbox cases, remove all the bushings and polish the outer covers.
Got all the parts out of storage and just noticed the tab!

Should I ask them to cut a slit into it?

Thanks!

Both my 1960 boxes dont have a slot, the nipple is small enough to go through and the adjust goes into the hole. I think I have read that some are threaded for the adjuster

The A10 has one adjuster on the clutch cable and front brake cable. Until about 1959, the adjuster was on the gearbox so it had a slot and threads and, correspondingly, the handlebar levers did not have adjusters. In about 1960, the A10 had adjusters on the handlebar levers so the front brake plate, and the gearbox lost their threads as the cable just has a ferrule at that end. The front brake cable mount still has a slot as the cable has a shackle on the end which, obviously won't pass through the hole. However, the clutch cable has a ball on the end which will pass through the hole in the inner gearbox plate.

Thank you for the responses!

With the bike being a 62, it has an early gearbox and presume someone changed it at some point in its life

Closer to the time of completion, I’ll be on a hunt for a 59 cable instead of the 62 I already have

Will just have to keep notes

1962 is later gearbox without threads in the adjuster hole. So yours is correct, isn't it? Not sure if we're getting confused?
