Wanted: camshaft 67-0334 67-334 New
« on: 27.11. 2024 16:30 »
Wanted: camshaft 67-0334 67-334 New or NOS. It's for a A7 Swinging Arm 1954. After more than 200.000kilometer (I think) the old one is worn out. Where can I find a new one?
Other question: is the number 67-0695 the same camshaft as 67-0334? Thanks in advance.

I think (corrections always welcome!) that:
67-0334 is to SA to '59
67-695 is plunger to '49
67-356 - SA 60-62 is your best bet as its a good cam with a bit more power.
67-356 are widely available (for about £180) and you may find some old stock around too.
What ever you do save the cam followers, they are very expensive!
Tell us some more about your 200,000km A7, its always nice to hear about a bike that's really earned it keep!

I too would recommend a 356 cam. My A7 has a 357 cam. Peak power is a bit higher up the rev band.

Thanks Limeyrob and Black Sheep. I've bought my SA A7 '54 in 2007 from my neighbour, he bought the bike new in 1955 and used for travelling to his work. After a big restauration in 2009 I've made about 65.000km until now. In Spring 2024 I've fitted a new 67-356 camshaft but there is a lot of noise (I think to much) in the head. After 10.000km this year I wanna back my smoothy and really silent engine with the 0334 camshaft......  I've tried changing the clearance from in 0.010 and out 0.016" (0.25mm - 0.40mm) and reduced to in 0.008 and out 0.010" (0.20mm - 0.25mm) and later on to in 0.007 and out 0.009" (0.18 - 0.23mm) but still there is a lot of noise in the head.

Respect for all your riding!
OK so now I understand, you know about the cams, what you want and why.  Looks like you have found your 67-334, good luck with the rebuild!!

Camshaft 67 695 is used only on the early A7 Longstroke Engine and although similar in design this engine uses completely different cam and followers. 67 695 does not fit the later (1950 onwards engines) Stick to the part number, not any seller's broad description for correct application. Some sellers list 695 as A7, 334 as A10.  So folks order the A7 cam and end up with a Longstroke type which does not fit. Both later A7 and A10 use the same cams, 334, 356, 357 depending on model and variant.

New camshafts under the Hepolite brand are no relation to the old established  and now sadly missed brand of yesteryear. Plenty on the Forum about cam choice and the 334 is suited for low compression pistons and a smoother ride. Flat top pistons and a 356 cam are a choice for a little more performance.

A new set of followers (or at least a reground set) is always recommended with a new cam. Like chains and sprockets mixing old and new gives a shorter service life.  Old followers can be reclaimed with stellite and reground, even badly worn ones have a value, at least the basic metallurgy is correct, new repro aftermarket parts always carry a risk of incorrect hardening, as borne out by experience in earlier posts.

Newman Cams list a BSA A7 standard cam which is probably it, among others, on their website and they supply cams and could re-profile yours depending on the amount of wear. They are good to deal with.

You shouldn't have a noisy top end with a 356 camshaft. Is it really a camshaft problem?

@ Black Sheep: After changing from 334 to 356 the noise is very loud.
But alsoo changed the piston from standard to NOS Hepolite 020 with compression 8.25 instead of 6.70. To reduce this I have placed a alu shim of 2.0mm under the cilinder.
