Plunger springs
« on: 11.11. 2024 20:08 »
Hi all,
Does anyone run their plunger frames with chrome springs without the covers.
Mine are a bit past their best and I know the covers are expensive.

Not a good idea given the amount of road grit that'll stick to the grease on them.

Hi Rex,
What do the springs come in contact with to need greasing?

The sliders and rods are covered in grease and the covers are there to keep grit off those.  If you ran with open springs I think you would need to fit wipers/seal (like forks) on the top and bottom of the sliders.  Not impossible and now with 3D printing quite doable.

Hi Limeyrob,
I see what your saying, I’m sure there is a seal that would work and a way of holding that seal (it’s the sort of problem solving I enjoy) but, in my experience these things are very time consuming and could be more expensive than the covers, which I actually like, so bullet bit, thanks for the clarity
