Wanted A10 (Swinging Arm) Rear Lifting Handle
« on: 15.10. 2024 09:48 »
I'm looking for a rear lifting handle for my 1962 A10 GF, part no. 42-6865. Paint condition not important, but must not be dented or kinked.

Have you tried e-bay?  Someone is re-manufacturing them.  Don't know about the quality but a lot seem to be getting bought.

Just for info, a lifting handle was not original equipment in 1962 ( to the best of my knowledge ) so an original one won't fit because the mudguard attachment is different, which is where the back hole of the lifting handle would be bolted on. I make my own for post '59 models.

CB, your correct, 1962 models didn't have lifting handles, they modified the centre stand to include a boot lever. This was supposed to help with raising the back wheel enough to lift it onto the stand. Not so if your a light weight 11 stone weakling *smile*

I have a 1955 Shooting Star and I modified the stand by welding a generous boot lever and it works a treat, but it does have a lifting handle. So I thought I could modify an earlier handle to fit my 62 A10.

Good point about the boot lever.  The centre stand on my '59 has a hole in the stand leg where the lever should go.  I can't work out whether it fell out or more likely was removed by a PO.
Those boot levers with the ball end are a mixed blessing: I once pushed down very hard on an A10 with a worn stand and the ball punched through my boot and got stuck so I couldn't get the bike on the stand or get my foot off.  I had to do a little dance to free my boot.  The later A65 design had a rod with a rubber on, perhaps other people had done the same thing?

That helps me.  I bought one for my 1961 GF but could not work out where it fitted.  I have fitted a carrier now so I will never used it.  If anyone wants it let me know.

Thanks John, very helpful. I've just seen a 1961 Gold Flash on FleaBay and it has a rear handle fitted, so I guess it will work, cheers *beer*

Yes, seen this done quite a few times. Functional, but in my opinion looks dreadful! Sorry to all those who do this!
