Newbie
« on: 02.10. 2024 16:35 »
Hello all, glad to be here.
Been riding for 54 years, and  just about to buy an A10 after 40 years without one. I'll get some pics up soon.
I am concerned about the engine number which is CA10R XXX. The frame number is EA10 105XX.
Would a 3 digit engine number be right for the frame age which I think is 1956. The reason for asking is there is no paperwork as the bike was bought from a executor and it got "lost".
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ray

All frames were stamped EA7, FA7, GA7, unless Rocket Gold Star which was stamped GA10. I wouldn't be concerned about the engine number, but the frame number is seriously 'dodgy'!

G'day Ray  *welcome*
As John said the frame # is wrong. Where abouts on the frame is it stamped?
Engine #'s start CA10R 101 ^ is 1954 , CA10R 601 ^ is 1955 , CA10R 2001 ^ is 1956.
Frame #'s CA7 1954 & 1955, EA7 1956 & 1957, FA7 1958 & 1959, GA7 1960 ^.
Cheers

Thanks for your replies.
It is stamped on the headstock just in front of the tank. The full number is EA710542

If it's stamped EA7.... it's fine. Your original post stated EA10. CA10R xxx is 1954 up to engine no. CA10R 601, after that it's 1955. EA7 10542 is most likely 1957. To be certain of its origins you really need a dating certificate from the BSAOC. Engine and frame numbers are on the BSAOC website which you can access if you're a member.

Thanks, big fingers, small keys!  The engine is a 1954 by your numbers so very likely changed in the 1960's as others were. I will be joining the BSAOC so I'll get that certificate.
Thanks again. 👍🏻
