SRM oil pump - yes or no

I am thinking of springing for an SRM oil pump and PRV valve. The engine is in bits right now being sorted by an engine expert.
They are a bit of a price and wondering if they are worth it? Yes or no, what to folk think? The oil pump on there seems fine, but it is 70 years old so who knows.

Have you stripped and inspected the existing pump?  The bodies can warp but if its straight you can just clean up the joint faces with some fine wet and dry paper on glass.  Any deep scores or damage to the gears and your decision is made for you.

No, I have not stripped the pump. I have had issues in the past with binding after I stripped an A65 pump. Current pump rotates nice and smooth.
I am leaning towards splashing out on an SRM pump. The engine rebuild is going to cost a bit and I dont want to ruin it if the old pump is not up to it.
Just wondering what other people's experience with the SRM pump has been, build quality, ease of fitment, reliability etc.

My experience of the SRM pump is that it is excellent. Nice quality and better materials than the original. I think it also delivers at a greater rate than the original. Having said that, I've built some good pumps from original bits but, if you want peace of mind, get a new pump. After all, why pay loadsamoney building a good engine then skimp on the pump...it doesn't make sense.

As you've probably already realised, if you do strip the pump make sure the gears go back exactly where they were or the pump will be too stiff to turn, or even bind up, when the screws are tightened.
If the pump (Mazak) wasn't breaking up or the gears pitted etc I'd keep on using it unless you're contemplating lapping Brands at three-figure speeds.

The SRM pump is a first class product and worth the money in my view and experience with using one. I have used one for the past 15 years and would never go back to an old mazac pump.

I just pulled the trigger and ordered one, along with a new PRV that SRM recommends.

Another user of the SRM PRV and Pump, been on for 3 years, no issues, shame your can,t see the pump, work of art

G'day David.
It's a yes from me. My plunger wet sumped badly (whole oil tank in just a dew weeks). Recent rebuild got got the pretty blue pump. Not a drop now.

Yes. I bought one after rebuilding the engine. I figured that the oil pump is a weak point on these engines that has the potential to destroy the engine.

I had problems starting the engine because of another issue and with my frantic kicking I managed to get a return of oil so they must be effective.

I put one in mine when I rebuilt the engine just make sure the pump has been primed before starting, SRM recommend using the kick start but it was easier on my knees to do it with a speed wrench before I put the head on .
I had an air lock in the line on  suction side of the pump had to tilt the motor a bit on the stand to release it .
heading to Wales next week , you wont regret your decision if you dont tell the wife how much it cost .
