Steering damper knob a10 plunger

I have just purchased a replacement damper knob for my 1954 golden flash plunger part no 67-5021 only to find the thread to be different to the rod , may be mine has been changed at sometime .
Is the thread 5/16  , i also suspect left hand thread.

Have you just bought the knob or does it have the rod attached?
