As a newly registered member of this forum I would like to introduce myself.
My friends call me Charlie. I live in the UK. I’m a proud, bona fide ‘Geordie’, originally from beautiful Northumberland, but have lived in South Wales for the last few years (50+). I’m what you might call ‘of mature age’.
I first got involved with BSAs during National Service, when I needed a more reliable set of wheels and I bought a brand new 1959 BSA B31, a much more sublime mode of transport than my previous Excelsior 250 Talisman Twin! After demob I bought the bike of my dreams, a brand new 1962 BSA A10 Golden Flash. One of the last, I suppose, because a month later they announced the A65! This saw me through courtship and marriage until it was part exchanged in 1965 for our first car. I am sure I’m not the first to have regretted such foolhardiness for the decades that followed!
The Japanese boom years largely passed me by until the late 90s, when my daughter treated me to a day’s motorcycle experience course and I found my youth again! This led to a string of Honda VFR 750s until I found them too heavy for me to manage.
I moved back to BSA A10s a few years ago with a rather dishy 1960 Nutley Blue one with Borrani alloys, TLS brake, upgraded suspension, etc. I have also just recently bought a doppelgänger of my very first Golden Flash. It was a largely impulsive purchase, but it just took me back 60 years and I couldn’t resist it. Well, what else is a guy supposed to do?
Cheers, to everyone who’ve read this far! I hope to make your acquaintances too.
Charlie.
