For reference, my chain (IWIS 530 *edited) measures 19mm on the pins.
As you can see from the picture it leaves plenty room towards the primary case (picture taken from the bottom. Don’t look at the oil drip…  :!  *smile* )

Agree, 530 (5/8 x 3/8) non O ring chain is my understanding too.

Craigy.... The sprocket retaining nut can be reached  with the chain removed, a homespun crowsfoot two prong tool (like a 2 pin angle grinder wrench) should be enough to see if the nut is loose, as CJ reckons. It might be finger tight, but in any event, with side movement, tightening up the nut is the fix. No need for extra spacers. This would save a lot of hassle removing clutch and primary drive, and is awkward to do especially if the tab washer is in the way. At least you will have found the root cause, how it is fixed is up to you, short term hack or major surgery. Either way, it's a down in the dirt job.

As chain sizes has been discussed I thought I spend the morning putting this together from some information I had  (instead of being bored with election politics).  May be useful.

Good one Worty *lol*.
Here's the chart I took the measurements from with a few more (probably useless details).

Cheers John,

I’m down to the clutch sleeve behind the clutch.

Are you saying a regular 3 jaw puller is not right for removal?

Any pics of your tool would be much appreciated.

I’ll get measurements of the chain in the morning

Cheers

Remind me, does yours have the 6 spring clutch with the external thread on the clutch centre?  if so its 61-3362 which picks up on that male thread.  if its the 4 spring clutch is a different tool that picks up on the female thread (1" I believe) try 61-7014.

Hi Morris,
The chain is very slightly over 20mm across the pins, 18mm on the outer links.

Cheers

Looking at the supplied chain info (thanks lads, really appreciate it), it looks like I could do better in the chain dept.

I’ll see if I can source one in Aus.

Having said that, I’m now down to the shaft nut, and it was indeed loose, not even finger tight. I’ll get it tightened tomorrow and see how the spacing against the primary cover looks, I’m guessing that if 1mm makes that much difference then the tolerances are pretty tight.

I’m getting pretty proficient at rear wheel and clutch removal if nothing else.

Every day is a learning day for me
