Cush drive "nut" fixing

Word of warning fellas.  I bought a new, original type nut and the Peugeot tool off Evilbay.  The tool fitted the knackered nut fine, but the tangs of the tool did not fit the new nut (too tight).   I spend about two hours filing the gaps in the nut to get it to a nice snug fit.   I then discovered that the tool was about 34.5mm, so I couldn't get a 34mm on it, didn't have a 35, but a 36 held it just enough for me to belt it up (I now have a massive adjustable spanner to do the job).   After fitting with plenty of Loctite, I used a large hammer and (sorry) steel drift to nip it up to the 'dull thud' stage (no brass drift).  Nut was undamaged and has not shifted since.

Don't know about you guys, but a 35mm socket doesn't seem a common size in larger sets.  I have a 3/4" set with sockets up to 46mm, but all even sizes.

Know what you mean, in all of the socket sets I have, 34mm was the biggest, none of the car shops had a 35mm so I filed the hex on the Pug tool to 34mm. Twatted up as tight as I could get it.

Minto, that's the way I'll go if I need to remove the nut again.  Was cheaper to buy the tool and original nut than the SRM item.  If I ever need to address these issues again, it'll be on a different engine, with (probably) different issues.

 Probably a Peugeot special oddball wrench to go with that socket......

     Just ordered an oddball oval socket to remove the base screws from a Nespresso Chinese Coffee Machine. They look like nail heads. Those bastards don't make it easy to fix this expensive tat. It's not mine, but thought I'd have a go at saving it from the tip. Yup, your wealth is in the electrical waste skip, and the Chines Economy carries on...

Like this BGS2935 around £15 or less on ebay.

Hi All
35 mm is near enough 1 3/8 in. As makes no difference if you have imperial sockets.

Yesterday I as looking for 1 5/16 AF socket
and found a 3/4 Whit socket fitted

It's not that you can't get hold of them, it's just they're not a common size even in the bigger sets.  I have a 3/4" set that goes to 46mm, but the bigger sizes are evenly numbered.  Of course, one can always use the old trick of jamming some rag in the socket or putting some thin steel round the nut but, given the issue, I'll file down the nut when I have time.
