I bought an Indian tank  for my SR 3 years ago
It fitted perfect and has been fine ever since.
Mine came with taps included, but I swapped them for my original Ewarts which are by far the best.
The only "issue" I had was the threads on the front tie bar studs were odd, so I recut them to UNF.

I bought one for my 1960 A10 and after a few weeks with fuel inside it started to leak at a point near the back.
Still got it as a spare that needs welding sometime.

I have an Indian dual seat. Metal is thick and fit OK but threads are metric.

there are some old ones about but you need to examine them carefully.  The cost of rechroming is astronomic.

Hi Adtrac,
I bought one from India recently for my an A65 Spitfire I'm building (sorry chaps, but I still love my A10 honest!). Its the big 4 gallon home market style with the scalloped sides and flip up filler cap. Original tanks are fibreglass and a nightmare with modern 'fuel'.

I am very pleased with it although haven't got to the final build stage yet. I have trial fitted it on the frame and everything appears to be in the right place. The threads were correct size BSP for the fuel connections and all I did was run a tap through them to clean out a bit of paint and sealer. the mountings are strong and in the right place as far as i can tell. I can't fault the paint finish, the colour or the transfers, remains to be seen how robust they will be but at the price it represents tremendous value. Not only that but they have stamped the steel tank with fake seam lines to make it look like a fibreglass one! It really is very convincing. I figure at these prices if you have to do a bit of fitting to get everything just right then its worth it.

I'm thinking I will fill it with diesel and let it sit for a few months just to check for any leaks at least then it should be easier to fix than if I use petrol. It came already heavily sealed with a grey goop. Not my choice, would have preferred bare steel but it is what it is. I queried this with the supplier and they assured me it was "industry standard" goop and they have been fitting it for over 3 years now with no problems coming back. I think they started doing this because they couldn't get their welding 100% and were also being criticised for dirt and rust in the tanks.

I can't comment on the chrome as mine is fully painted but my mate in the SABSAOC bought one for a Gold Star from the same supplier and it looked tremendous. Silver and chrome with red and gold lines I think but it looked gorgeous and convinced me to go for it. Around $450 AUD from memory. They offered fuel taps but I turned those down, I did buy their filler cap which is OK and a bargain for $30 (15 quids) but I now have an original in good condition which also fits well so happy days!

I will look them up when I get home and post the supplier info here later.

Cheers Baga

the Indians have had lots of practice copying things there must be a few shops there that turn out a decent tank be good to know who they are because there are definitely a lot of poor quality ones out there ...............too bad they didnt put a gold star style tank on the Indian gold star instead of the Japanese looking flanged tank.

The chrome on mine still looks good - it's not got the depth of British triple plating but not far off.

I have only rarely seen an “Indian” chromed tank for the s/a with the metal winged badges, this ozzie supplier also doesn’t seem to list them. 1956 in my case.

Do people just fit tanks with “wrong for year” plastic badges?
