Best piston kits

Looking to rebore and fit new pistons in my A10. Any thoughts on best type to fit , looking for about 8.5-1. Heard a few iffy comments about some cheap and nasty sets on e-bay. All thoughts appreciated guys

 If you can get them, new old stock original BSA or original Hepolite, (Hepworth & Grandage, or AE) the old brand, certainly not the "new" Hepolite in the fake greasy fingered cartons.

 Forum members will have their own more modern choices. Don't junk your original pistons....they still have a value for those of us lower in the pecking order, and unless seriously worn or damaged are fine for keeping an old clanker running.

I'll second that re keeping the old pistons.  A new set of rings and a hone will rescue most engines.

Hi Nomad,
I have had great service from GPM pistons.
They come in 8.3:1 compression
The modern Hepolites made in Taiwan 7:1 are good too

Made in UK, perfect rings. You might search for the threads that include "IMD", that will tell you all the benefits I (and others) found. They are flat top, but my compression came up by skimming anyway. The owner, Adrian, has posted himself in this forum. One of the benefits he offered was a sleeve set, that had flange at the top - so they can't drop or twist...

I've used and sold many sets of these (Wassell supplied Hepolites) and never had a problem. Others may have had problems but I haven't.

 That's good to know CB. Have Wassell started to listen at last?  When they first entered the market I recall there were numerous  Forun posts concerning poor bore seal with the rings supplied with these kits.

 My intention was to distinguish original Hepolite from the Wassel Brand, as there is no engineering or manufacturing connection between the two.

I too have had good results with the modern "Wassel" Hepolite flat tops 7:1's, the ebay guy I bought them off said he threw away the rings and supplied a different type. The oil rings had an unusual expander which though a spring was a flat section spiral with a wire or pin to connect one end into the other. They made a good seal with no staining below the rings.

I have also heard criticism of the rings and it is true that the oil scraper ring can cause problems due to the expander spring but this can be overcome by careful fitting. I've never had a problem fitting them but I've heard some say that they were unable to compress the expander spring enough to allow the barrels to slip over the rings.
