In the process of getting my A10 wheels rebuilt. What are the best rims to fit. Can I go up a rim size on the back. Which are the best tyres to use. I had an A10 40 years ago and it had TT100s on it with alloy rims.

I reckon this is going to be a personal thing to each owner.  I have the standard rims with standard size tyres, but I had to go for an AM26 on the back as the traditional pattern tyres weren't sticky enough for my riding.  I have a Cheng Shin (CST/Maxxis) on the front which has been excellent.

A timely question for me.  Mine has WM2 x 19 front and rear and rust is showing though the chrome.  They'll do for now but they will need replacing.  A WM3 or the rear would be tempting, but if a WM3 would need to go to an 18" rear to keep the rolling radius as they did with the A65

kept the stock wheels on mine just replaced the brgs and fitted new avon tires tubes and rim tape which I believe are still made in UK if a deal came up on alloy rims I would swap the rims out but at 75 not likely to happen.

I have a '59 Super Rocket that is geared up one tooth on the front sprocket. With a K70 350 x 19 the gearing was perfect, but they wear in the middle and tram track when worn down. Next tyre is a TT100 410x 19 which has a smaller rolling diameter and has geared it down. From looking at other tyres rolling diameter I have found the K70 to be the tallest and will be fitting another when the time comes. I like the gearing and the look of the tread for that era motorcycle.
Why do people fit wider rims and tyres? AFAIK tyre sizes were widened to get the power to the ground, this isn't an issue with a 64 year old 650cc motorcycle.

I have boranni alloys on mine. Roadrunner on the front, SM MkII on the back. Works for me and I do enjoy fast cornering...

G'day Nomad.
Depends how deep your pockets are (I see your Scottish  ).
If I were to do the plunger wheels again I'd go for stainless rims, spokes & nipples. I just put on TT00's back & front.
On the Cafe I have Akront rims wm2 x 19 front and wm3 x 18 rear shod with Roadriders.

Mine are all stainless - wouldn't do  it any other way.

Mine are stainless because I had to replace some rather rough Akront alloy rims. The stainless were the nearest to original pattern, they were also remarkably cheap. I've got Avons front and back because it came with a set of near new and whilst they have been excellent I'll probably replace with Mitas as they do a period look, are made of soft modern compound and are very reasonably priced. Had a set on a B44 and they were very good wet and dry. I would recommend you stick with the WM2 rims front and back. They look right on the bike and you wont have issues with the tyres rubbing on the stays or chainguard etc.

got fed up with rust in rims and spokes so changed to stainless years ago, tyres have Avon on rear 3.50 x 19 and Dunlop on front K7 3.25 x 19. just replaced front from speedster it only last 6000 miles so hope this lasts longer

Just ordered another set of Avon Tires 1961 A10. The ones that I'm replacing are in good shape but now over 11 years old. Pattern is right for vintage registration. Dunlop has also ones...
