I'll be taking my brake plate to a welders soon, its about -5C here today so I'm not very motivated to go driving about *sad2*
I don't expect much distortion and I'll use a competent ally welder so they should minimize it.  The key parts of the plate are the central bore, and the 2 cams, I expect those to stay in line.  There's 1/4" to be built up as the fork slider dims are 19/64 vs 27/64 (CL to peg).  I'll get it welded up more then grind back to a neat shape.

I have not fitted anything like this to my bike, but I do have a 69-70 TLS anchor plate laying around somewhere.

I am not a huge fan of the look, and I dont really want to butcher up a good one by turning the flange off of it. Probably why I have not done this.

What I dont understand is why you would build up the alloy plate, and not just the much easier torque tongue on the slider?

I guess my thinking is the alloy slot was plenty strong enough before, if you extend the steel tongue to the same depth as it  originally  was, the plate has the same strength as original. Right?

I dont understand.

Hi Lee,
Welding on the fork leg would cause distortion/ shrinkage resulting in the sliders jamming up. Not an easy fix *eek*

there must be a far superior brake system from a japanese bike that can be adapted to fit these if you desire , I am quite happy with the stock brake as I dont go too fast anymore at 75 yrs old .

Does anyone recognise this roller / frame? (It's a Howard motor) -I have this - would be good to I.D. the frame.
It's a norton 'box and clutch, has a lucas magneto. It's going to be for sale soon.
Have a disc wheel that might fit, (sorry it's a bit of a hijack of the thread!)

I fitted a triumph twin leading brake to my A10 with the triumph hub. the braking was better But But the peg on the leg does not go fully home into the brake plate. This also lead to rattle when riding.

I had a near crash end of last year when i had to jump on the brakes, the bake locked up, and the front brake plate spun round ripping off the mounting on the plate thus lost all braking from the front. So i have returned to the Orginal A10 brake plate and changed the brake linings to a new type of material. complete re lining as £24.00.

Havent run it yet as i'm rebuilding the front end should be complete in a month.

That peg is a nuisance.  I've had my brake plate built up with weld.

I have Triumph disc forks on all 4 of my A10's its  dead easy fit, SRM sell the bearings to do it the only thing you need to do is make a steering stop.

I do like to stop when I hit the brakes
