Centre stand pivot
« on: 06.01. 2024 16:02 »
Hi guys
Had to cut off the centre stand pivot off as it was rusted solid. After cleaning everything up I thought it was as simple as to buy a new one advertised on eBay. They gave the correct part number 42-4744 but when I got it the outside diameter is smaller than the one which came off my bike. The diameter on mine is 0.58 inches (14.8mm). The new one supplied by TJ Wassell is 0.5 inches (12.7mm). Does anyone know the correct size before I make a fool of myself by complaining to the seller.
Cheers

1/2 inch diameter. Mounting holes often found very worn.

It may have been drilled out in the past and a bigger pin fitted to correct wear.  Try a 9/16 bar and see how that fits.  Its easy enough to drill a couple of split pin holes.
Just a thought, you have got the sleeve off it?

Hi Rob there was no sleeve on the original so it looks like it may have been a bigger pin that was fitted. I will cut off the anchor brackets and make a couple of new ones.

All sorts of ways of fixing this mate.  I used 15mm copper pipe to form a 'bush' for mine.  Works well for my application.

The beauty of it is that if the 'bush' wears, just stick another in.  I've been using mine for years now with no issues (not a lot of movement).  There are far cleverer 'drill it out and weld-it-up' solutions, but I ain't that clever *ex*  Stand doesn't wallop the silencer any more. *good3* *good3*

Don't cut of the brackets!  Just drill to the next sensible size, looks like yours is just over 9/16 so I would try that first, you can cut a bigger sleeve but I'm not sure the sleeve does anything.  Fitted my stand yesterday and I think the sleeve is just to keep mud out the pivots.  Get a blacksmiths drill as these have 1/2 shanks.

Hi All,
I have found that most stand and pivot repairs need welding up and re drilling
The holes wear in one direction so drilling out will not be on the correct centers

I've drilled then up a size in the past, its not perfect but the center only moves by between 1/32 and 1/16 and its a simple fix with a sleeve.  There's always the option to get the welder out if it doesn't work.  The pins wear very unevenly so just having a round straight pin is a big improvement.  I'm sure the biggest problem is that they don't get greased enough.
