Sea Dart
« on: 23.12. 2023 09:06 »
Convair XF2Y-1 Sea Dart seaplane jet fighter prototype 137634 coming ashore. It is the only seaplane to have exceeded the speed of sound. Kinda has a James Bond feel to it - surprised it was never in a 007 movie! The four surviving planes were retired in 1957, but some were kept in reserve until 1962.

I'd not heard of that plane, thanks.

If someone says Sea Dart to me I always think of the behemoth of a missile...

Not much of a behemoth in reality. Fitted to the sharp end of County Class Destroyers (among others) where they were always disparagingly referred to as "the dog's dick missiles"
