Rear brake anchor point.
« on: 27.11. 2023 03:46 »
Hi everyone.
1960 A10 all original.
I've got no information on how this brake anchor attached to the swing arm. Seems to need a very long spacer. All photos I've seen show it mounted below the swing arm but my mount is on top. Also note my brake cross shaft is seperate from the swing arm pivot and is mounted below. Seems to be a model that's got a lot of early a65 similarity.
Photos attached in next post once I've worked out how to shrink them to 2000kb
Regards
Dave

added more phtos of swing arm. Ive known this bike for many years when it was un restored.

That's very odd.  The brake stay mount on the swing arm for that brake is a lug not a welded tube. Did the hub and swing arm start their lives together?

Just been and looked at mine. '59 with the same full width hub, stay on right.  Swing arm has a large lug that lines up with the brake stay, no spacer.
This e-bay pic shows the lug:

This is the full width hub arrangement.

I don't recognise the tube on swingarm in the first photos as pre unit A series.

What does it look like on the sprocket side?

I don't recognise the tube on swingarm in the first photos as pre unit A series.  Agreed. That boss looks like a chain guard mount but its on the wrong side, and I can for the life of me think of anything that mounted there.  As you say, a pic of the other side should show the plate for the QD brake.

Hi,Your swinging arm is from -54-55 A10, single sided rear hub. Somebody has welded a extra lug to it.

G'day Dave.
Also note my brake cross shaft is seperate from the swing arm pivot and is mounted below.
Looks like a bit of shenanigans by the previous owner. *work* *bash*  With the non standard swingarm they made their own crossover system.
So now your on the lookout for a proper swingarm.  *pull hair out*

I can see the brake anchor in your original post, should have looked more closely.  Yes you have the swing-arm for the half width QD hub.  Good news is it may sell for more than the one you need, just put "Gold Star" somewhere in the add  *smile*

that is the same arm as in mine 54-55 and it looks like the lug has been added for the other wheel for a torque arm, as limeyrob says. the lug on the left side is for the chain guard and the brake torque arm plate with two holes in it is underneath.
