20mph Wales Petition
« on: 20.09. 2023 16:03 »
For those of you who have a mind to do so, please sign this petition to remove the new 20mph speed limit in Wales.  Last time I looked signatures were approaching 300,000 (last biggest petition was 67,000).  Doesn't matter where you live, but if you have relatives/interests in Wales, it may have a greater impact if you use their postcode.

Oh, and please feel free to forward the link onto anyone else.

Cheers guys - power to the people (we can always hope, eh)

Hating to swim upstream but putting someone else’s post code in the petition is perversion of the democratic system. If the people in Wales want a reduction in the speed limit then they should have it (and apparently they do) Other nations in this country should not interfere.

In my opinion main roads should remain 30mph unless they pass sensitive locations such as schools. I would agree that driving at 20mph is pain in the ass but other users of or transport system would think this pain for motorists is worth paying.

Couple of things there, John.  Two thirds of the Welsh voting population voted against the plans, but the arrogant t**ts that are the Labour govt ignored them and went against the majority anyway.  Secondly, I don't believe one iota that 'democracy' exists in any meaningful form.  To me, it's just another way of fooling the proletariat into thinking that their vote will make any real difference (too many believe it does).  Thirdly, being part of the UK, I think people who have relatives in Wales and/or travel there regularly should have a say.

As I've said before, speed limits do not indicate a safe speed, they merely represent an arbitrary figure that authorities can use to prosecute without the need for subjective decision making.  In some 30mph zones, 50-60mph is perfectly safe providing you're looking at the road and not at the phone.  In others, 20mph could be too fast.

I do agree with the member of this forum who has a strapline that says, "Rules are meant for the guidance of wise men, and the obedience of fools."

I don't trust or respect so-called 'democracy', authorities, big business, the Police or anyone else that tries to remove my freedom to make sensible decisions.  Yes, I suppose you could say that laws are there to rein in the nutters, but let's try a modicum of commonsense eh (oh, but we're not allowed to do that anymore) *sarcastic* *sarcastic*

I pondered this before signing. As I often drive in Wales I decided it was OK for me to sign.

70% of the vehicles that go through our village do not obey the 30mph MAXIMUM SPEED  signs on the speed awareness sessions we have done, but no one has been done for speeding for as long as I can remember.

Little point in getting hot under the collar over a 20 mph limit as most will ignore that as well and there will be little or no enforcement on that either.

We used to have a police station with 12 police locally plus police houses in the villages, all are closed now. There is no fear of enforcement any more.

Sorry if I've said this before: I wonder if setting a low speed limit is intended to get drivers to exceed the limit but only up to the previous 30? limit.

Interestingly, GB, the Welsh police say they'll only start enforcing past 26mph, at least for the first year (although I hope it'll either be revoked or Drakeford and his mob are dumped out of power at the next elections).  This equates roughly to someone doing exactly 30mph on their speedos.  Even so, the decision to spend £30m on changing the limit on the statistical analysis that 10 people may survive an impact is ridiculously stupid.  If we're so keen on 'saving lives' just ban cars from city, town, village centres, or, even better, ban vehicles altogether and save 100% of lives in road accidents.  Pity we can't save even more lives by banning stupid politicians from prosecuting/supporting wars.

It'll never be revoked. Any public figure, be they politico, copper, local government, etc etc know that to be seen to be in any way anti-Green is the Kiss of Death to their career, therefore to be seen as abandoning such key principles as lower speed limits is not going to happen.
They'd more easily admit to celebrating Hitler's birthday or texting under-age girls than revoke the 20 limit.
That said, they won't dump Drakeford no matter how bad he gets; Celts bear grudges for centuries, and Thatcher = Tories and Tory = Thatcher, the person who closed the pits and steel works.

Ah well Rex, keep your eyes peeled and ride as normal!  Never stick to speed limits anyway - not got nicked (so far) in 42 years.

Sorry Worthy but even with no cars someone somewhere will stumble over the kerb, hit the concrete with his head and die… which is also a road accident  *eek*
Looks to me that they introduced this 20mph limit to be more in line with the 30kph European school zone and city centre speed limits  >:D *whistle*

Just can't get my head around spending £30m to change a speed limit that could save a few lives when there are so many other, far more important things the money could be spent on, like child poverty, job creation, etc, etc., the list is endless.  This is just a vanity project for Drakeford and his idiots so he can be 'remembered' for something in his life.  Well, yes, you'll be remembered as the cretin that brought in this stupid idea.

worty it is because the money comes out of tax payers pockets not theirs, you know the speak " we haven't got any money " but they find it for anything they decide to do right down to importing massive plastic planters that they put on public walkways and tell us " look what we have done for you " and in the next breath when a partially sighted person walks into one causing much injury they tell us " we take health and safety VERY seriously " then they say we have to save the planet and charge you for driving a car into their congestion zone. then they get in a helicopter or a private jet and sod off on their jolly's while telling us to turn the heating down!! the list is endless !!!!!
