G'day GB
I agree, cars are safer but drivers are worse. Sitting at a cafe and watching the traffic I just shake my head.
Modern cars do so much for the driver it's a wonder they need to learn to drive at all (most don't).
Here's a list of acronyms/abbreviations used in a lot of cars today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_acronyms_and_abbreviations
They left out a very important one OYFE. Open Your F'ing Eyes  *ex*

Yes, well it's all very well praising the vehicle's so called 'safety' improvements. But the teenage girls on their phones to the maddie pilled-up boys who are driving them are about to KILL us!!!

The way to end this stupidity is to obey the new law
Find as many people as you can, drive in close convoy to & from parliament house at the time politicians want to go there and aain when the session finishes & they want to leave
Do the same around their home addresses so they are stuck in a long line of very slow moving traffic
Even better is if you do it in first gear and go 15 mph
But you have to be preparred to do it every day for a long time
IF they use speed cameras in Wales then make a lot of hand written signs warning that "speed camears in opperation stay under 15 mph"
Do your protest where it will make every one late for work, late for school, late to pick up from child minding centres and of course around courts, police stations as well
Even better would be around stadiums so 1/2 the supporters miss 1/2 the game because the busses are stuck in very slow moving traffic
Do not carry any protest signs so people will think that this is nothing more than the results of the lower speed restrictions
Way back in the 90's some one got pinged several times on the Cahil Expressway exit from the Sydney Harbour Bridge which was 60 kph zone
So for a week they organized a "slow moving convoy " doing 50  kph
On top of that they stuck up "speed Cameras used here " all over the bridge so everyone slowed down as well .
The morning peak hour extended by 3 hours busses got cancelled because the drivers had exceeded their regulation hours behind the wheel because they could not get to the dedicated bus lanes . The child minding centres were stuck because parents could not get there on time so they had to remain open for longer
State politicians could not get to Parliament house on time
In a week the speed limit was raised to 70kph then 75 kph a little latter on
Way back in the 70's the parking police decided to book motorcycles that shared a single car parking space for either "not park close & parallel" or "park to close to other vehicles "
So every Saturday & Sunday we rode into the city very early and occupied every legal car space with one motorcycle plus had hundreds of bikes circulating around to take the positions of others who had been there for the allowable time limit .
The mess this made of Saturday morning trading in particular got the parking laws repealed in that month from whence bikes could park at any angle provided they were withing the boundries of the parking space and we could park as many bikes in any space that would fit .
Down side was they got really testy about parking between cars so if a spot was empty the first bike had to park dead in the middle to prove you were there first .

You have to show politicans that their ruled are stupid and having politicans miss a photo op as well as a good part of the rugby game works wonders

G'day Trevor.
re parking. I rode into RPA to see the surgeon today. There a few motorcycle designated spots, 4 in each. All were full so had to park with the tin tops. Had to buy a ticket, $12 for 2 hours (I was an hour early  *bash*).
The roads around there, you'd be lucky to get over 30kph with speed humps and traffic lights every 100 yards.
Cheers
ps: remember the protest of the toll introduction for motorcycles on the coathanger. I think it was 5c. We all stopped, took our gloves off, got our wallet out and paid with a note. Put change in our pocket, put our gloves on and road off. The same for the next 50 riders.  *lol*

The problem as I see it is that everyone who ends up in power screws it up.  I couldn't stand Thatcher!  Her supercilious, arrogant, self-entitled, smug attitude, and her desire to sacrifice us plebs on the altar of profit for herself and her mates, was stomach-churning at best (Poll Tax).  She has to be one of the most reviled characters in UK politics ever, although some still think she was great (many Russians still see Stalin as a great man *eek* *eek*).

On the other hand, people like Scargill were so intent on blackmailing the country, that UK industry eventually priced itself out of world markets.  As I understand, it was cheaper to ship Chinese coal to the UK than pulling the black stuff out ourselves.  The unions lost the plot, and industry couldn't function with the constant strikes over pay, conditions, and the colour of the local cat.  Unions have had, and do, have their uses, but holding the country to ransom wasn't going to end well.  I was never a union member until I worked in a secondary school where my boss tried to bully me.  After walking out of a meeting when she turned on me, I decided I needed to watch my back, and joined as a bit of insurance - she left the school soon after??

So, what to do?  I can't stand the Tories and want them out, but I also can't stand the idea of voting for a Labour govt with the insidious threat of unionism constantly present.  I also can't stand Starmer or his potty-mouthed deputy Angela Rayner.

In the end, it may be voting for who I dislike the least.  The Tories need to be punished for their despicable behaviour, especially Johnson and his constant lying, so it may have to be Labour this time.  What we need is a political party that has some honesty and integrity, and will see through policies that are genuinely of benefit to the country.  Whilst I wait for that, I'm going on a search for some hen's teeth.
