Paint finish on dynamo a10 glod flash

I am currently restoring a 1954 BSA Gold Flash in the standard black color , can any one tell me if the dynamo is painted in body color or left raw with the black  brush cover strip only being black
SA hopefully getting a 53 A10 GF

If you paint the dynamo body, it will not earth to the bike frame and you will wonder why it isn't charging.

The dynamo was originally cadmium plated. Zinc plating is a good substitute. Zinc plating is also cheap if you can identify a local plater. If you want to replicate the original finish with paint, use a dull silver. I've never had a problem with the dynamo failing to earth through the paint but, belt and braces, rub a bit of paint off where the body sits on the crankcases.

Yes silly me. I painted the dynamo with black gloss engine barrel paint  *bash* Quick fix was to earth it by wire.

Just my two bob's worth, the body was nickel plated up to about 1951.

I painted the dynamo body too and was give dire warnings. Happily the dynamo body is earthed through the end-plate to timing case contact.
