Sydney area exhaust manufacturers
« on: 05.07. 2023 05:43 »
Hi Everyone
Do any of our Australian members know anyone in the Sydney/South Coast of NSW area that they'd recommend to make me an exhaust for my 1929 AJS M6? I've done most of the restoration myself but don't have either the equipment or skills to bend large diameter tube.
Cheers

Hi Tim,
Not Sydney, but I had some exhaust pipes and mufflers made for my Lilac 500 by Overlander at Warrnambool in Victoria . They were Stainless steel with a flash of chrome on the exhausts to prevent the yellowing. A beautiful job. Barry Bligh was the owner then quite a few years ago.

G'day Tim.
+1 for Overlander, also Reband in SA http://www.reband.com.au/. I can't remember which one did which. One did the stainless pipes & mufflers on the A7 plunger, the other did the high pipes and mega's on the Cafe.
Try Ulladulla Muffler Center. Dick Drury used to make pipes in Ulladulla but no longer trading.

Thanks for the replies Col and Musky, after a recommend from Gary Jobson (who you'll probably know Musky), I stuck my head into City Mufflers in Nowra and as long as I can supply some silencers, they'll be able to bend up some headers for me. - result!

Overlander for me as well
AFAIK he has the only 3 axis jig in Aust
Everyone else bends or buys in flat bends then welds them together
Viking Exhausts in New Zealand also has a 3 axis bender

Most exhaust places either weld in bends or bend pipes on an ordinary pipe bender. The latter might do for a truck, but not where visible.
Make sure the place you choose uses a mandrel bender. Fairly common these days, but not everyone has them .....
