the mag which I lent has come back this morning, slipped it on my 'daily rider' A10. Started first kick, sounds sweet! Fingers now pointing at fuel delivery to carb, IMHO.

As Andrew said a close look at the fuel system now starting with assessment of the flow rate of the taps and pipes so this will pop up on the amal board

Your first post indicates that you have started the bike and it runs well when it eventually starts. So the magneto and the carburetor are working well after it starts. However, the pilot jet in the carburetor is important for starting. Have you checked the pilot jet in the carburetor?

Right we are starting afresh looking at the supply first off to the carb. The carb has been stripped and spent time in the ultrasonic all jets cleaned and compressed air blown through. The tiny pilot circuit holes blown through as well. I am going to check the flow from the taps not replaced to long ago with some BAP taps. I don't feel from first impressions the flow is rapid so what do we consider a good flow rate?

Once the float bowl level has been achieved , the flow only has to keep the level up according to your speed and flow will depend on the diameter of the smallest orifice it has to pass through ….. back in the 60s we used to make clear perspex float bowl covers so you coul see the bowl level….
Best of luck …. Hope you get it sorted asap

so do I. Its just so confusing. I have changed nothing on the carb, I am changing the fuel lines as one end is breaking up but the insides do not look damaged in anyway or swollen from the E10 fuel. Like i said the flow from the BAP type taps doesn't look really exciting and so many people say what great taps they are but I have found them a pain to fit and get leak free, quite stiff to operate and I got the batch that seem to operate upside down and cannot be swopped to operate the right way round. I am wondering if they were the genuine ones. i liked my old lever type ones

Any chance you could swap one out with the old tap … i have heard some taps rubber swell with the e10 .
I bought some taps from India complete garbage they leaked everywhere , ended up putting my old ones back on
