Something fell off - top mount bolt
« on: 02.05. 2023 00:53 »
Took the bike out over the weekend, after checking points gap and a couple of other bits, got back and the gearbox top mount bolt was gone. It was definitely there before I left, saw it and even considered checking it for tightness (another note to self!!)
This isn't the first time this has come loose, when I first got the bike a few years back the nut and washer were missing and the bolt was just wobbling about in the hole.
Is this a regular problem with Plunger A10s?
Trying to track down a new nut n bolt assy. 67 4027 etc. if anyone has a spare set.

I never had that problem thankfully, because they are little beggars to get at. Had you used threadlock?

Maybe those screws should be wired.

I think you might have something there Neil.
When I find a replacement I might castle the nut and drill the bolt for a split pin.

G'day Minto.
When I acquired my plunger it had a corner of the flange welded back on. I'd say similar had happened to it.
All bolts red loctite'd now.
Cheers

Musky, I've seen a lot with corners missing on ebay, common problem then?

I think originally the gearbox is held on with studs at the bottom and screws at the top. I made my life easier by changing to four screws.
PS, I may have that back to front, screws to studs.

Mine has four bolts holding it to the engine, the first rebuild required one of them being drilled out as it was seized solid. The one that's gone MIA is the one on top of the box that bolts through the lug on the frame.

Oh I see, I assumed it was one of the engine to gearbox bolt/screws. I was wondering how you were going to put it back in.
