Amal carb

 I may in the near future be gifted a bsa a10 gold flash that we believe is a 1953.
My question is what is the correct pre monobloc carb for this bike and is it a flange mount or otherwise .
The bike has no carb at the moment as bike needs restoration.

Just make sure you get the bike and worry about the carb later  you can fit easily fit and jet any monobloc or concentric of approx the right size to these bikes to get them running well, and they are available new from Burlen Uk Ltd.

According to the Amal catalogue the correct carb for A10 1950-1953 is 276ER/1DB. 1 1/16" bore, main jet 4/042-170  needle jet 4/061-108 needle position 2 throttle valve6/0524 float chamber 1DB these are from an original Amal Catalogue.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are in for a lucky windfall. I know everyone must be interested in how this comes about, what your other bikes (if any) might be and, maybe, how you got ino bikes in the first place . How about getting over to the Introductions page to ease some of the curiosity? Also, pics of the bike in question will be well ogled.

  Yes, Hole in the middle is 1 1/16"  (27mm or thereabouts). 276 carb has a remote float chamber, despised by many.  A later Monobloc carb will fit on a Plunger bike no problem, except it's a tight squeeze against the frame top rail on an A10. A7 with the lower block height is a breeze. Folks fit a later type carb in the belief that it is better. A well set up 276 is fine, and don't suffer seized throttle stop screws, common with old monoblocs. Do not neglect to fit a carb drip shield. Drippy drip and sparky spark are an unbeatable combination.

Well there is a 276 on my Emily and it's fine; I'm sure it's the original. I fitted a new throttle slide and needle back in 2012.

Thanks for the replies , not certa8n at this stage as to when I can actually get the bike , I know that it is in need of restoration with some stuff missing  eg carby but all in all it is  a good candidate for resto .
I will post photos once I have the bike in my possession.
The owner is  family member who has had the bike in his shed in its current condition for 30 odd years.
