Running issue sorted

Evenin all
Last year I posted about some issues my gf developed with back firing down hills, then just running really badly. All this seemed to come on quite suddenly during a longish ride.
Well, that was September 22, and I've only just grabbed an hour to look at it.
Checked all the obvious stuff first; plugs, points, leads, pick ups. Then just as i was putting the cap back on the mag, I saw it, glaringly obvious! The top had come unscrewed from the carb and was floating about on the cables.
Anyway, back to running again, short ride round the block down to Tescos n back, never stuttered.
Very happy 😃

Yep, very satisfying indeed. I love a nice obvious easy fix.

Well done that you picked it up I reckon. Could have been a lot worse  . . .
When the top off one of a pair of  Monoblocs auto-unscrewed while cruising my Notrun on a light throttle, first I knew was when the piston that side nipped up. And very annoyingly stayed nipped up as she cooled, which meant I was as stuck as the piston and had to "phone a friend" as they say.
A Beesa would never make us suffer such indignity  . . . (well, maybe not!)

Krikey!
I wonder if it had been working its way loose for a while and the extra air it was sucking in contributed to it nipping up last summer??
But yeah, it still got me home. 👍

That's Beesas for you! Forgiving natures always.

But seriously, if the lids get cross-threaded (or the threads are just very worn), you can think they're on when they're not. The retaining spring clip can disguise the fact, and also make it hard to get the lid on square.
On some bikes it's dead easy to see if things are on right, but on some it's hard without taking the fuel tank off.
You see carb tops held on with big worm drive clips and all sorts, due to wear and PO x-threading foul-ups.

And not the easiest fix. I've made a few fractionally undersized rings (like the well-worn one in the pic) to screw on to re-cut carb body threads to get a bit more life out of serviceable carbs, so I have felt the pain. I guess the best thing about concentrics is the 2-screw lid!
