Heppolite two piece scraper/oil ring

I can't seem to get the scraper ring to compress sufficiently to get the barrel down over the scraper/oil ring.
I never used this type of ring. Is there a knack to it?
Pretty sure the spring ring is seating well within the ring.

You will have to use a ring compressor
You can not close them up with your fingers.

Hi, used my ring compressor. Anyway, after a huge amount of stress, they are in now. A 5 minute job took me far too long. I won't say how long, but long.
