here is a new slave cylinder fitted at last , loads of work just for this blinking thing.

i did not go to the pub, but i will tomorrow *beer* *beer*. the gearbox is IN *yeah* what a job the jack slipped under the engine and poor young lad helper was holding it up with his knees , i was holding the gearbox from above with a strap so i let it down gently onto his body *help* and then propped  the engine up before it ripped out the only rubber mount holding it *pull hair out*. after this fiasco we got an engine crane holding the engine and got the box on. now why didn't we think of that before. i know because we were freezing cold and in a hurry and thought doing it the first way was a good idea *problem* . now it is a matter of sub frame , steering rack,  gear linkage , control arms . drive shafts and other bits to put on . we might have a go on Saturday if i feel ok *countdown*

GB a part used can i scrounged just to stop the bare frame rusting up , there are two colours on the frame but it will end up black

well it gets worse, i can't bleed the clutch we have had pressure and suction on the lines with no result. i phoned a mechanic friend and he suggested the clutch bias valve or compensator whatever it's called. it has taken me over half an hour to get a union nut off and i had to cut spanner length down just to get it in the non existent space, these modern cars are horrible to work on. now i know it isn't this valve it has to be the master cylinder and why it is now failing to pump fluid something has gone wrong with it. we have tried suction and pressure while pumping the pedal and nothing happens it just pulls a vacuum or locks the big syringe and blows the pipe off. so master cylinder has to come off and is a mare of a job!!!! FED up me *problem* *pull hair out* *bash*

I don't get why it is that something that has been working fine suddenly fails when you start working on something not directly connected to it - unless it was starting to fail and that's been part of the problem???? *dunno* *dunno* *dunno* 

Every sympathy with you Bergs - but I do know that when a job starts to escalate into an epic, you're well proven in that regard!! *whistle* *whistle*

Just wish I had something to suggest, which I don't.  The only thing I can think of is buying a Skoda van, like the Roomster or Praktik, as I've found them to be excellent - but that's not going to help much with fixing your motor.

Just keep your eye on the B&Ts at the end of the day - can be the only thing to keep oneself sane :! :! *beer* *beer* *beer*

I've recently bought a little Ford Ka. After a few miles the clutch pedal went loose and couldn't get any pressure. Turns out, some of these modern cylinders are made of plastic which can 'grab' the rubber seal. Mine was grabbing in the slave cylinder. A quick squirt of inert grease (ptfe) under the dust seal did the trick. Might be worth a try.

Just makes me want to stick to the 'dinosaurs' I've been using (not just the Beeza).  My old Octy is a beast, and can still be fixed using spanners and bad language!!

BSAReg it is coming off tomorrow we can't get pressure or suction through it and the pedal is very sloppy i think the piston seal has done one and the holes are covered , no matter what we do it is not going to work *problem*

Bergs - I presume you've pressurised the master cylinder directly? I use a small garden sprayer with an old master cyl cap attached to the hose for bleeding clutches / brakes. On many modern vehicles its the only way to get the air out. Upside is it's a one-man job.
Had to bleed the clutch (similar nasty in-bellhousing slave cyl) on my partner's Fiesta that way - several times - recently.
