What a great looking bike but then I do have a real soft spot for a nice pre-war 'twin-Port' single. Is it yours?

I doubt it. I know that many forum members do not use Facebook. If I see something on FB that I think may tickle forum members curiosity I save it and post here.

One of my favourite portraits.
Just a gorgeous machine, great lines and perfect proportions.

*loveit*Love the photo and the portrait! Really extremely good looking machines.
A local friend with a genuine vintage (pre-1931 for them as run by different codes) never-restored predecessor of the G80 (ohv twin port 500 but 3 speed by hand) cruises regularly at 90kph, with snappy acceleration to go with. Fantastic drool-inducing envy-making beauties.
If I was smaller/shorter by a foot and could hack low seat heights, I'd have one like a shot. Or something similar - Empire Star, Ariel, Rudge, Sunbeam  . . . Sigh!

  • Last had an A10 in 1976, in 2011 it was time for my 2nd one. It was the project from HELL (but I learned a lot....)

You forgot BSA 😏 the rigid B series are very good looking (even non std ones like mine). Having seen the innards of a pre war BSA B single I don't think I would recommend them tho, rather delicate gearboxes and crank cases (bit of a generalisation I know, not all pre war BSA’s were bad).

New Zealand

1956 A10 Golden Flash  (1st finished project)
1949 B31 rigid “400cc”  (2nd finished project)
1968 B44 Victor Special (3rd finished project)
2001 GL1800 Goldwing, well, the wife likes it
2009 KTM 990 Adventure, cos it’s 100% nuts

Didn't mean to KiwiGF! Thought Empire Star about covered it - I love a mate's unrestored one over here, sits brilliantly with the other guy's unrestored vintage Matchie. Can't recall gearbox or bottom end trouble on the Beesa in the 20 years I've known the machine, but then again,  pride perhaps prevents people publicising problems!
I also like post-war B series - but hey, that's 'modern' for you.
