In my case, that would take me to the end, I suppose.

Something funny going on with lot 929.
Scroll down and you will find the same frame and engine number on a complete bike which was sold at an earlier auction but with a different gearbox.

Hi Trev,
Have you a link to the previous auction?
Looking at that lots engine number the last two digits look "fresh" compared to the others (to my eyes anyway) ???
928's and 930's frame number stamping's look "sharp" compared to the 929 frame
Note all 3 frames are freshly powder coated

I saw a post on FB Gold Star group last week where the poster wrote to the "Man" about his bikes details
The engine number quoted is listed as being in five other bikes as well *eek*

I would definitely not be confident about those engine number stampings.

Hi John, this is the link to the past auction. It was on the link which you provided but is not there now.

Hi Trev and All
"There's something rotten in the state of "silverstone auctions""  *eek* *eek*

The frame number is not shown on the bike Trev linked to, Lot 111
The engine number looks "better" although the HHC looks freshly stamped to me ??

And me. It hasn't got the oxidisation in the bottom of the letters like the main number has, though the number doesn't look like BSA stamped it either.

No shit, Sherlock!  The letters and numbers all differ slightly in position, depth  and orientation between the two crankcases. An engine number to avoid in the future. The A has moved up and the gap between DA10 and R has changed in the later picture. The number prefix has moved away from the front of the case.

G'day Fellas.
Yes there's something fishy there. I wonder if they all came from the same shed?
I knew a fella back in the 80's that had 6 Yammy 650's. All had the same engine and frame numbers. 2 stock, 1 chopper, 1 Cafe, 1 rat and a sidecar. He recon'd he could only ride one at a time *ex*

Hi All.
Well, someone is going to be in for a shock after spending many hours and much money finishing the bike only to be told by the DVLA that it already exists elsewhere!   The project bike lot 929 was sold for £5062.
What I found really shocking was that Silverstone Auctions were aware of the duplication and yet were still happy to auction this bike, one or perhaps both of the bikes are fraudulent and they have sold them both. Obviously, morals and ethics rank lower than making money.
Their justification is that they "had all the project bikes checked over by the BSA Owners club and the BSA RGS Owners club.
and the conclusion was that the frame fonts seemed okay as did the engine numbers.
I wonder which club officials would have been brave enough to put their club's reputation at risk by verifying the number stampings?  Do we have any knowledge of this actually taking place? It would be good to know.  Surely there must be some legal issues with an auction house selling 2 different bikes with the same ID numbers?
All thoughts invited.
Cheers.

Hi All,
Compared to the other two RGS projects the £5062 price was a good bit less than the £7875 and £6862 of the other two projects so it would seem that the issue was known about  *????*
But still there are people out there who will either pass it off to some poor bloke or re stamp it and try and claim its "another" genuine RGS
The danger is that those people have access to the BSA records and can look for a currently unused number

From my own position I sure am glad that the previous owner of my RGS registered it with the club over 30 years ago, It would be some shock to find out today if you went to the club with a bikes details and were told it "already existed  *eek* *problem* *problem* *angry* *angry* *pull hair out* *pull hair out*
