Gearbox Mainshaft Play at Clutch End

As part of my challenge to get my S/R reasonably oil tight, I'm working my way through the primary drive side and the gearbox, replacing gaskets, oil seals and felt washers etc.
Having removed the clutch, primary drive chain case etc, I then removed the final drive chain sprocket.

The plan is to fit a new sleeve gear/pinion oil seal, and also an SRM sleeve gear/sprocket nut (with oil seal).
What I have noticed is that the mainshaft has more play at its (clutch) end than I would have expected
It is evident that the play is occurring where the mainshaft passes through the sleeve gear/pinion bush (see photo).
When clocking the amount of play with my DTI at the very end of the mainshaft, I am recording a maximum play of 7 thou. Note that this is the amount of play and not the shaft to bush clearance which is obviously much less.

So, a couple of questions:

1 - Is this amount of play 'normal'? (I realise that in normal running order, the shaft is supported by the clutch centre rollers, and I can confirm that there is no noticeable play when fully assembled).

2 - I've tried, without success, to establish the mainshaft journal to sleeve gear/pinion bush running clearance to give me some idea of what the amount of acceptable play could be at the end of the shaft. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

3 - If it turns out that the sleeve gear/pinion bush does require replacing, I see that the BSA Spares Book shows 2 bushes are required - Part Number 11067-3073 x 2
However, looking on Draganfly's site, their parts list and exploded view shows 2 different bushes, namely Item 16, Sleeve Gear Bush Plain 67-3080 and Item 17, Sleeve Gear Bush drilled after fitting, 67-3073
Can anyone shed light on this?

Finally, can anyone recommend a good workshop manual that covers my 1960 S/R?
I currently have a Haynes manual but can't say that I'm too impressed with it.
I really want something with more detail and depth to it, along with technical details such as limits and fits of shafts/bushes and bearings etc.

All answers to the above will be much appreciated!

7 thou at the end of the shaft is bugger all. Yes the bushes are a little worn but not to the extent to warrant a g/box strip just yet. A new seal and SRM nut will do the trick there.
Yes the Haynes and Cylmer manuals leave a bit to be desired. Go to https://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?board=17.0 and look at the service sheets
Remember back then the torque wrench was the assemblers elbow!

A load of info on sleeve gears here… I agree with prior comment that yours is not worn enough to warrant fixing yet.

Sounds good to me guys,

I've now got the new seals and SRM sprocket nut, so I can now get re-building and see how we go.

One last question (for now!), have any of you used Wellseal on your casing mating faces?

If you have, what do you think of it?

When I replaced my oil seal, I also replaced the standard circlip with a conventional 2 hole type - much easier to install

Yes, I also bought a conventional circlip too, as I read that they were much easier to install.
