Aerial Square Four, first model.

Copied from FB:

A picture of a young Edward Turner posing by his first Ariel square Four. This was not only overhead cam but also had horizontally split crankcases, like Japanese bikes, but Ariel decided that they would be too costly to produce. The eagle eyed will also notice the forward facing carb which gave extra power the faster you went, a sort of cheap turbo charger !. The picture is from 1929 and this is the same man who brought us the Triumph Speed twin and the Daimler V-8 engine amongst other things. Master, and masterpiece in 1929.
