Flat battery
« on: 22.08. 2022 14:43 »
So last week I took my gold SR to work just for fun, but I was commuting so I put my lights on
just so the doppy SUV drivers might see me.  And you guessed left them on and I got a flat battery. *sad2*
and yes I have done away with the mag. so we are not going anywhere. I rang my wife warned her of the situation and to be on stand by
for rescuing me. Then a brain wave occurred to me would the ignition work on the power from the dynamo alone once it was running.
jump it! but I'm still on six volts!
Here is where the never give in approach kicked in, we have 9 volt PP3 batteries at work I could try to trick the CDI it had juice to start
and amazingly it started easy, it took a few goes before I had the tick over high enough to keep it running and rode it home!  So now I’m thinking of making a little jump start kit to keep in the tool box if I’m stupid enough to do it again (yes I am). ;)

thought I'd share for anybody else as dosy as me

I once bought an old side-valve Morris Series E that had been parked in a field for yonks. I took the head off, poured penerating oil onto the pistons, eventually having to use a hammer on a block of wood to free the rusted piston rings. When I was able to turn the engine over with the starting handle the next problem was power for the coil. The 6v car battery was no good. I connected up one of those lantern batteries from a torch; the sort that have springs on top. I put fresh petrol in the tank and after a couple of swings on the handle the engine started and I was able to drive it home. Neccesity is the mother of invention. 👍
