G'day RD.
Not wanting to wander too much. No I haven't heard of that problem. On the EVO (84-99) crank pinion is keyed and the nut is done up to 45lb. Some have a pressed on cam pinion but most are one piece. So possible your mates cam pinion had been on and off enough times for it to loose it's "bite"

Hi GB,
Well wear with the new BSA  *ex*
Looking through your pics I saw a date and initials ?? on the underside of the tank
It looked like 26/3/22  ??
If so, is the tank a year old already ?? or has somebody screwed up on the PDI ?
I think I'm getting a bit "jelly"  *red*

I wasn't aware of anything uncomfortable.

I suggest you arrange a test ride if there is a dealer near you. I'd be interested to read your opinion of the bike. Same for anyone else reading this.

Im going to test ride a few bikes this year, Speed triple, RE constellation, Thruxton 1200, 916 Norton if i can find one, and a couple of others, so may as well chuck my leg over the Goldie as well.
The time has come for the Aprilia RSVR and I to part company. ☹️ just too old and achy for it nowadays.

A few boys did some burnouts on their HD's next to the bar. I'll have some of that so lit the XT up only to go about 10 seconds. Doh, I forgot to turn the fuel on

Was chatting to a mate yesterday that I hadn't seen in a while. He's an HD lover too, though not so much now.... He was in France, overtaking a lorry when the back wheel locked up (the engine went bang). Was lucky not to lose his leg - now full of steel pins nonetheless. Apparently the timing gears on those tractors are held by a taper, locked in place by a nut HD advises should be torqued to 45 lbsft. I'm advised HD aficionados prefer 75lbsft but, as my mate's bike was serviced by a dealer, 45 was used. And the timing slipped, so the valves and pistons got together. As did my mate with the tarmac.
RDfella....   Was your mates HD a Twin Cam? or Evo?   The EARLY 88B Twin cam engines 1998 - 2006 had a poor cam chain spring adjuster which wore badly & allowed the chain to get too slack & could slip off the gears if adjusted correctly...
Later Twin cams came up with a much better hydrolic adjuster  *wink2*
A lot of the EARLY owners ( me included *good3* ) Changed the cams over to GEAR DRIVE..   *good3*

See, I am not able to compare my new BSA with any other moderns so I'm interested in people's opinions.

Well done, owner.

G'day GB.
I'd like to have a better look at that and the one behind. Where did you get the pic?
Cheers

Looks like both of those customised bikes have been catstrated. In other words the catalytic convertor has been removed.

Here is the Rotax lump that the new Gold Star engine is based on. It's a fuel injected twin-spark single cylinder engine. Look at that beautifully short and straight inlet passage.
