Super Flash at Auction

Hi All,
I saw a link to this on this on FB,

They are claiming SF number one, but I would always have thought the number one bike would have frame 101 not the engine dictating number one.

Yes, I would agree that the first Super Flash would have frame 101.
Presumably there may be another 'Rare Serial no. 001' bike out there somewhere with that frame.
It is beautiful though

The Super Flash despatch records are indexed with engine number first, frame number second, that bike might not have been the first to leave the factory.

Looking at the Auction bike again I saw that the tank badges "say" Golden Flash (not Super Flash)
Just wondering if this is correct

Yep, they had Golden Flash tank badges. BSA spent a lot of effort making special frame, fuel tank, tool box, oil tank etc. and then use the standard tank badges.

Don’t know if I can mention names, but it is Barry Porters bike, I don’t know why he’s selling it. It’s a parts build up bike as a far as I know, there is some inconsistencies insofar as bits on the bike that I see. I DO know that the petrol tank came from here in Melbourne @ Modak. I have spoke to Barry about said bike, and he is quite passionate about it.
The bike despatch numbers to and including 1954 was via engine number.
It was previously set for sale at 30USD on the same site, from foggy memory.
As far as I know it is the first Super Flash.
I also have one (a basket case).

The first Super Flash to leave the factory, numerically, was engine number 102. It was in a batch of approximately 13 bikes shipped to Rich Child Feb 6, 1953. The engine number 101 was shipped to Hap Alzina March 2, 1953 with approximately 12 other SF's.


I just edited the original post. I had incorrectly stated frame number and changed it to engine number. I cannot find frame number 101 listed. The clerk seriously needed lessons in penmanship.

this is the S/F in question.  Barry sent this to me almost 10 years ago.  Looks pretty complete to me!

That is most complete SF I have ever seen. It even has the front and rear head steady.
