1/5 th Spitfire
« on: 29.03. 2022 19:05 »
From FaceAche

I am occasionally asked by those who have seen my 1:5 scale Spitfire in its magnificent glass case at the RAF Museum, Hendon if the model has a fully detailed cockpit. The answer is yes, and here are some pictures. The building of the cockpit, from its basic structural elements to the seemingly endless catalogue of fixtures and fittings, took well over a year to complete, and was one of the most enjoyable and challenging facets of the entire model. I devote an entire chapter to a detailed part-by-part account to the construction and fitting-out of the cockpit in my 192-page book, Spitfire in my Workshop.

Amazing! That's something about you of which, I would guess, most of us were not aware.

Hi GB , similar age to me I believe,  love Bsa's like me and we share a love of this beautiful machine , always have since seeing my first one at RAF Manston on gate duty ,the sigh from the Merlin still makes my hair (what little i have these days ) stand up , absolutely stunning model ,attention to detail no less than I'd expect from you ,just how long did that take ?  anyway truly wonderful.
Oh I still harbour hopes of having a flight in a real one before I curl my toes !

OK, I don't object to being perceived as a model making genius. 😏

I have sat in a Spitfire, I have flown behind one in the circuit but the dream of actually taking to the air in one...
Still, at least I can still ride the A10.
