« on: 12.03. 2022 18:30 »
Hi All I am new to classic bikes and have purchased a 1961 BSA A10 Gold Flash I have chargers on my modern bikes and have purchased a 6V 1amp trickle charger for Mae Thant's her name

I don't want to do any thing wrong so can i ask for some advice on how to fit this

It comes with a flying lead so can be plugged in when charging is needed

As classic bikes tend to spend a lot of time standing their batteries go flat so the use of a trickle charger is a good idea. i would advise using an intelligent charger like an 'optimate' which can read battery charge and deliver charge only when necessary. If you leave a trickle charger permanently connected you risk boiling the battery.

Tee the fly-lead to the battery terminals, red lead to plus, black lead to negative.

First, go to Introductions please and give us a heads-up on your motorcycles. 👍

I don't think you can go wrong if positive is connected to pos on the battery and vice-versa. If the bike has pos earth or neg earth, the battery polarity remains the same.

If you are using one of the modern 'smart' chargers it will let you know if you've reversed the connections.

PS., A word of warning about those modern chargers; if the battery is totally flat they don't work. I assume they need to know the voltage and polarity of the battery connection before they can do their work.

G'day BSA COOPER.
Beautiful bike mate.
As GB said red + from the charger to + on the battery, - from charger to - on battery. Doesn't matter which polarity your bike is.
I have a duel 6v/12v smart charger so handy for the bikes and cars.
Now get over to Introductions and give us your story.
Cheers

Now 60 years in Jan been riding all my life still do Sold Harley still got GS and decided it was time to stop looking at the classics and buy one, the company I brought it from I worked for they specialize in classics amongst other bikes so asked them to find me a good one, and as they say the rest is history.

So although i have messed with many bikes mods and builds i have no idea yet on classics but will learn quick

G'day Coop.
Well that certainly looks like a good one, and going by that you won't need tools for a while.
Just need to get your head around WW and CEI threads. You'll love the simplicity compared to your past rides.
Cheers

It's a lovely machine 😍

Just a small thing I noticed. The cotter pin for the kickstarter is inserted from the wrong side. Doing that positions the kicker a bit more anticlockwise than it should be, which reduces it's movement. If you are happy with it the way it is just leave it alone.

A detail like that rings a tiny alarm bell for me; how come the person that did a showroom restoration didn't know about it?
