Speedometer drive
« on: 15.02. 2022 20:30 »
I am having problems getting my speedometer cable on the gearbox.

Is there more than one size connector?

I assume the thread is 1/2” CEI.

Thread is 1/2 inch x 26 tpi.

Speedo end thread is metric M12 x 1mm pitch

I had the speedometer cable upside down.  Seems that the 1/2 inch CEI end is happy with the speedometer but the M12 will not fit the gearbox.

The M12 end goes to the speedo.

Sorry to hijack your thread (hoho) JHG but is there a way to stop the oil leak from the speedo cable at the drive end? Seems like it's running down through the outer and dripping out at the lowest point. I've sealed the alloy ferrule to outer cable "joint" but still the annoying drip. Any ideas?

Usually wear between the bush and the speedo drive shaft. The late drive shafts were fitted with a rather flimsy O ring to help keep the oil in. Second photo shows the drive shaft with O ring groove.
