What Sprockets to fit??
« on: 08.01. 2022 21:05 »
Hi all,

I am currently building an A10SR cafe racer,

Engine is to RGS spec with 9:1 pistons, spitfire cam

I am Currently running an STD G/box.

I have 19" rims running Dunlop TT100's

I'm at the point I need to decide on my GBox/ rear sprocket size's and its a minefield!

I have two sprocket sizes for the rear as I am running a QD rear hub so 42 or 46 tooth sprockets are available!

I am after a lively bike, ideally a nice balance between acceleration and top speed

i would lean more to better acceleration as I live in London and the bike will be used for those summer blasts rounds the country lanes!

What are peoples recomendations??

Building the bike as a "FAST ROAD CAFERACER"

Happy New Year

I'd use the 42 tooth rear and the standard gearbox sprocket and limit your experiments to the engine sprocket where there's plenty of scope to alter gearing to suit your style. I'd start with the standard set-up. The engine sprocket is easy to change but you will find you may need to make a primary chain out of two chunks so you can vary its length until you're happy with the gearing.

G'day Lukey.
Andrews suggestion has merit but I would go with the 46 rear. The cam prefers revs so it would help with spirited take offs without putting strain on the primary and g/box.
I had a few different size rear sprockets for the A7SS racer to suit different tracks

G'day Lukey
I've geared my Super Rocket up one tooth from standard on the gearbox sprocket and it's perfect for spirited riding on B roads when fitted with a Dunlop K70. After trying a K81/TT100 tyre I found it to be the same as standard gearing due to the smaller diameter tyre.

if playing with final drive gearing you also have the coice of 520 or 530 sprockets, both available for gearbox and rear wheel
