pick up resistance
« on: 20.10. 2021 15:34 »
1955 Golden Flash,

I have started to investigate the lack of spark. buzzed out the HT cables from pick up brushes to plug caps and find 50 Ohm. The resistance is in the pickup assembly. Is that normal? Same on both pickups. Seems to me they should be close to 0 Ohm.
On a related note I tried to remove the brushes and though I could just pull them out, but the spring seems attached in the pick up assembly and just wants to stretch the spring so I stopped. Do I just need to tug a little harder.

Thanks
dave

Grab the brush and rotate it to wind the spring up - then it should pop out.
Same to refit 'em.

Thanks, that method worked. I was over thinking it!
Resistance of the brush alone is 35 Ohms which still seems a bit high to me, would expect it nearer to 0. They are new brushes.

50 ohm is as good as zero resistance in the HT system.

Your spark problem was not caused by that.
