New to the forum

Hi all,

Just thought I'd introduce myself on this forum. I'm Evan and recently purchased a 1961 BSA RGS replica. It has Goldstar mudguards along with rear hub front hub and also has a twin leading front shoe made by Phil Pearson. The engine is built to RGS specs from a 1958 super rocket engine. Has a 389 monobloc carb, 9:1 pistons, spitfire cam etc.

I've done about 200 miles since owning it and passing my full motorcycle licence last month. Unfortunately I've been having a few issues with the timing and magneto, and now have a strange clicking noise coming from both exhaust valves. So I might be posting about those issues sometime if I cannot find the cause.

Welcome to the forum. That is a very nice bike! You could probably start by adjusting the valves and move on from there. There is lots of great help here. Good luck

Congratulations on jumping the hoops and passing your test. You are now in the most dangerous period of your motorcycling career.

Take time to understand the bike's character and be very careful. Anticipation of what some other fool may do is the key.  Bikes are all but invisible to other road users, see and be seen. I'd also add that it is very attractive to the toe rags of this world, so hang on to it at all times.

Great advice from Swarfy, I will add that an earlier plunger model A10 might be a safer bet, which I would be willing to trade with you (so kind and selfless).

Welcome, I love your bike.

I've taken a screen grab of the rear wheel. I really do not like the huge gap that modern tyres cause under the mudguards.

Thanks for the warm welcome :) it's a really nice bike and I like the look of it. I've ridden bikes before but never a true british one.

I'm located in West Norfolk so have some nice country roads to ride on.

Haha I think I'll stick with it opposed to the a10 plunger model 😄 thanks for the offer.

Regarding the tyre, it's an Avon I believe and I prefer it over the more rounded profile tyres.
